Strawberry Festival, live music, a car show and more: 5 things to do near Peoria this weekend

June is full of activities. Here are five events you might want to check out in the Peoria area this weekend.

Good Neighbor Days returns

Good Neighbor Days will take place June 1-5 at 1800 Washington Road, Washington. Carnival rides and concessions will be open each day, and Friday and Saturday nights will feature a beer garden and live entertainment. Historical Society bus tours

The Peoria Historical Society will offer guided history tours from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4. Friday's tour will be "Roll out the Barrel," focusing on Peoria’s years as “Whiskey Capital of the World,” the whiskey barons and their lavish mansions. Saturday's tour will be "Warehouse Renaissance," recalling the once-bustling district and examining renovations taking place today. Tickets are $20 and are available at 309tix.com or by calling the historical society at 309-674-1921. Tours depart from outside the Caterpillar Visitors Center, 110 SW Washington St.

Friday night in the Heights

First Fridays at Tower Park will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 3, in Peoria Heights. The event will include food trucks and Clink Mobile Bar. Live music by Easy Riders will begin at 6 p.m. For more information, visit PeoriaHeights.org.

Theater in the park

Corn Stock Theatre's production of "Once Upon a Mattress" will begin with a performance at 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, in Upper Bradley Park, 1700 N. Park Road. The show will run through June 11 with performances at 7:30 each evening. Tickets are $22 for adults and $17 for students college age and under with an ID.

Elmwood Strawberry Festival

The annual Strawberry Festival will be held Saturday, June 4, in downtown Elmwood. Central Park at the corner of Main and Magnolia will be filled with crafters and vendors, as well as food, including lots of strawberry desserts, and local entertainers. Admission is free.
