Fetterman mocks Nate Silver over Senate dress code: ‘I dress like you predict’

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) sniped at data guru Nate Silver on Monday over his comments on the new Senate dress code.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has eased up the chamber’s informal dress code to allow senators to wear whatever they want on the floor. Fetterman, who is 6 feet, 8 inches tall, often sports shorts and a dark collared short-sleeved shirt or a hoodie around the Capitol, a casual look he had also brought to the campaign trail last year.

“I dress like you predict,” Fetterman said in a response to a social media post from Silver, who had joked he was starting “a new political party for people who don’t give a shit either about how John Fetterman dresses or what Lauren Boebert does in a theater.”

Republicans have criticized the new Senate dress code for being too casual. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) specifically took aim at Fetterman over the new rule in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The Senate no longer enforcing a dress code for Senators to appease Fetterman is disgraceful. Dress code is one of society’s standards that set etiquette and respect for our institutions. Stop lowering the bar!” she wrote.

Silver, a data journalist, announced earlier this year he would be leaving ABC News and the popular FiveThirtyEight blog he created when his deal with the network was up. Silver’s comments about Boebert also come as the Colorado Republican has faced scrutiny over her behavior at a “Beetlejuice” performance, which resulted in her being kicked out.
