Demchenko said that earlier there had been more soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces at the training grounds in Belarus, but the Russian conscripts who had already undergone training were returned to Russia in order to be transferred to the areas where hostilities are currently taking place.

“Near our border, we do not detect movement of either military equipment or personnel of these units (both of Russia and Belarus). They are mostly located on military training grounds provided by Belarus.”

“In total, about 9,000 military personnel of the Russian Federation may be on the territory of Belarus,” said the DPSU spokesman.

Earlier, concerns were expressed by some in Ukraine’s military that Russia could again strike at Ukraine from the north, in Belarus, towards the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv.

However, while the troop movements in Ukraine’s neighbor to the north are concerning enough to warrant placing reserves in the area, Ukrainian intelligence has not seen any indication that a further attack from Belarus is imminent.
