FHP: 37-year-old pickup driver killed in Clermont car crash

CLERMONT — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a Monday morning crash that claimed the life of a 37-year-old pickup driver at Hammock Ridge Road and Foxchase Drive.

According to a press release from FHP, the man was driving a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 travelling eastbound on Hammock Ridge Road in the outside lane.

The other car was a 2017 Mack Box truck that was disabled in the eastbound outside lane of Hammock Ridge Road with its hazard lights activated, the release said. There were also traffic warning triangle markers placed on the roadway.

The pickup driver attempt to change lanes from the outside lane to the inside lane and struck the box truck. The driver was pronounced dead on scene, according to the release.

The driver of the box truck, a 49-year-old man from Winter Haven, was not injured and remained on scene at the time of the accident, the release said.

FHP does not release the names of accident victims.
