FHP: 78-year-old Orlando man killed in early morning crash in Orange County

A 78-year-old Orlando man is dead following an early morning fatal crash in Orange County, troopers said.

The crash happened near the intersection of State Road 527 and Stratemeyer Drive around 5:20 a.m.

Investigators said a Kia Soul was traveling eastbound on Stratemeyer Drive in the left lane approaching State Road 527.

Meanwhile, a Hyundai Sonata attempted to make a left turn onto S.R. 527 and crossed directly into the path of the Kia Soul.

The driver and passenger of the Sonata were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 78-year-old driver of the Soul was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was shut down for a few hours while troopers investigated and is now back open.

This crash remains under investigation.
