FHP: Clay County hit-and-run crash involving school bus, driver flees scene
The driver of a sedan fled the scene after colliding with a school bus at the intersection of Park Avenue and Old Orange Park Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol Wednesday afternoon.
The accident involved a school bus carrying 15 students and a sedan traveling at the intersection of Park Avenue and Old Orange Park Road. The driver of the sedan, a 57-year-old male, reportedly failed to stop for a red light while traveling north in the center lane on Park Avenue around 2:07 p.m.
As the school bus, driven by a 55-year-old female from Jacksonville, attempted to turn south onto Park Avenue from Old Orange Park Road, the front of the sedan collided with the left side of the bus.
The driver of the sedan reportedly fled the scene on foot, leaving the school bus to be relocated to a nearby WaWa parking lot. Fortunately, none of the passengers on the school bus were injured.
The Florida Highway Patrol is urging anyone with information on the driver of the sedan or video footage of the accident to contact them immediately.
As of now, there is no information available on the possible motive or circumstances that led to the driver fleeing the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
