FHP searching for suspect in fatal hit-and-run crash in Osceola County

The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of an unknown vehicle that fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Oct. 30 in Osceola County, FHP said Sunday.

A witness to the crash advised that the suspect turned into a nearby gas station after the crash occurred on West Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway and Westside Boulevard, FHP said.

Investigators were able to obtain video of the suspect that shows the suspect at the gas station. The suspect vehicle is possibly a Toyota SUV or truck believed to have minor damage to the front right.

The unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway approaching Westside Boulevard, possibly in the center lane, FHP said. A 2016 Nissan Altima, driven by a 25-year-old woman from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was traveling eastbound on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway approaching Westside Boulevard in the outside lane. The pedestrian was walking south on Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, west of Westside Blvd.

The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk and entered the direct path of the unknown vehicle, FHP said. As a result, the front of the vehicle collided with the pedestrian.

The impact caused the pedestrian to come into the direct path of the Nissan Altima. Subsequently, the front of the Nissan Altima collided with the pedestrian, FHP said. The witness advised that the pedestrian may have been struck by multiple vehicles after the second impact.

The pedestrian, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said. FHP has not confirmed the identity of the victim.
