FHP trooper injured when Porsche hit his cruiser on I-75, police say
A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured after a Porsche SUV slammed into his patrol car on I-75 in Weston Tuesday morning, the agency said.
The trooper was driving west on the highway around 7 a.m. in the area of Indian Trace when the black Porsche crashed into his cruiser, Lt. India Miranda, FHP spokeswoman, said.
Photos released by FHP show the front end of the trooper’s car against a guard rail in the median, with heavy damage to the back left end of the vehicle. The right front of the Porsche is caved in and the door is off, the photos show.
After hitting the cruiser, the driver of the Porsche, who the FHP says is 49-year-old Ricardo Jimenez, ran away. Police, including FHP troopers and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, searched for Jimenez and caught him shortly after he fled, Miranda said.
The trooper’s injuries were “non-life-threatening,” Miranda said, and paramedics took Jimenez to Cleveland Clinic and will transport him to Broward County jail when he’s medically cleared.
