From baseball to weightlifting, the district assignments for the next two years have arrived.

The Florida High School Athletic Association announced preliminary district assignments Monday for spring sports, including baseball, softball, lacrosse and more, to take effect for the 2023 and 2024 sports seasons.

The new districts apply to baseball, softball, flag football, lacrosse, tennis, track and field, beach volleyball, boys volleyball, and boys weightlifting. They also apply to water polo, a sport not contested at high school level in Northeast Florida.

The FHSAA based its new districts on student enrollment, with cutoffs varying by sport. For baseball, Class 7A has a range of 2,386 to 4,843 students; for Class 6A, 1,902 to 2,385; for 5A, 1,554 to 1,902; for 4A, 1,021 to 1,553; for 3A, 384 to 1,020; for 2A, 64 to 383; and for the 1A rural division, from 600 students on down.

The assignments listed are preliminary and subject to change through appeal. In addition, several more adjustments may follow within the coming days. The FHSAA's initial list omitted several schools, including Raines in track and field.

Schools may appeal the classifications through Nov. 4.
