The Florida High School Athletic Association opens its 2022 high school swimming postseason on October 17 with the district championships for Class 3A and Class 4A, including most of Northeast Florida's larger schools. Ponte Vedra's girls team reigns as state champion from the 2021 season.

Schools in Class 2A and Class 1A, including 2021 champions Bishop Kenny and Bolles, will begin their playoffs in one more week.

District 1-4A

At Planet Swim (swimming), Cecil Field (diving)

Time: 9 a.m. Thursday (diving finals), 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (swimming finals). NOTE: Diving had been originally scheduled for Monday at Bolles but was postponed.

Teams: Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Gainesville Buchholz, Creekside, Flagler Palm Coast, Mandarin, Sandalwood

Outlook: This is traditionally a strong district with two perennial St. Johns County powers in Bartram Trail and Creekside, but FPC and Buchholz also have a distinguished track record in the pool and could easily bump the 904 area code from the top spot on the podium. Bartram Trail's Raymond Prosinski and Atlantic Coast's Jayla Covington are among the leading area candidates for individual swimming honors, and Sandalwood's Tayler Graham won the girls diving title in the Gateway Conference a week ago.

District 2-3A

At Morcom Aquatics Center, Tallahassee

Time: 10 a.m. Wednesday

Teams: Belleview, Tallahassee Chiles, Columbia, Ocala Forest, Gainesville, Tallahassee Leon, Tallahassee Lincoln

Outlook: A challenge ahead for the Tigers, who brought up the rear in the boys standings at last year's districts. Look for Chiles, Gainesville and perhaps Lincoln to top the standings.

District 3-3A

At Planet Swim (swimming), Bolles (diving)

Time: 9 a.m. Monday (diving finals), 1 p.m. Monday (swimming finals)

Teams: Englewood, First Coast, Fleming Island, Fletcher, Matanzas, Middleburg, Nease, Oakleaf, Orange Park, Parker, Ponte Vedra, Ridgeview, St. Augustine

Outlook: Reigning Class 3A girls champion Ponte Vedra takes the first step toward defending its crown in a particularly large district. Annie Wohlgemuth, Annabelle MacAdams and Penny Zarczynski are among multiple top returners for the Sharks. But rival Nease might have the inside track on top honors on the boys side, led by sprinter Matthew Koziol and distance swimmer Ethan Clifford. Watch for several other contenders from around the area, including Fletcher diver Travis Hardy and double Gateway Conference winner Ryland Zuniga as well as Fleming Island's Maryn McDade, a returning state girls state sprint champion.
