Fiberopticinternet service provider now offering landline phone service in Connecticut

Aug. 3—Ryan Wirth, GoNetspeed's director of technical services and network operations director, said although many people use their cell phones for making voice calls, "there is still a significant portion of the market that wants this kind of service."

"We've actually been surprised by the demand for it in Connecticut," Wirth said. "We just had one day where we did more than 30 installs of the service in the state. Some people were waiting until we offered phone service before they signed up for our internet service."

The number of landline users has been steadily dropping over the last few decades. About 73 percent of adults now live in a home without a landline telephone, according to researchers with the National Center for Health Statistics.

Customers with an existing phone line will be able to keep their existing number, according to company officials. GoNetspeed's phone service offers free local and unlimited calling to anywhere in the United States and its territories as well as Canada.

The company's phone service provides a variety of features such as speed dialing, automatic callback, voice mail and call forwarding.

Earlier this year, GoNetspeed launched a partnership with DirecTV Stream in an effort to woo consumers who aren't already using streaming services.
