Field hockey: Five are nominated for Player of the Week

Each week, The Journal News/lohud asks its readers to vote for the Field Hockey Player of the Week.

Last week, with six players nominated, readers cast 29,607 online votes and Clarkstown South's Ella St. Louis, who played shutdown defense and ignited the Viking offense with strong carries in two wins, won the honor with 8,362 votes.

The runner-up was Panas netminder Kate Astrab, who garnered 7,914 votes.

This week, coaches have nominated five players.

Alexandra Barker, Suffern

The senior defenseman played a big role in shutting down North Rockland's offense in a 2-0 Mounties' win and she also scored the game-winning goal on a penalty stroke against White Plains.

Natalia Kochut, Rye Country Day

The junior midfielder, who plays key roles in the Wildcats' offensive and defensive penalty corners, recorded an assist in a 5-0 win over Brearley and netted her first goal on varsity in a 5-0 win over Fieldston.

Emma Leddy, Hastings

The senior center defenseman scored twice and had an assist in a 5-0 win over Albertus Magnus and recorded four assists (the final two on penalty corners) in the Yellow Jackets' come-from-behind, 4-3 win over Bronxville.

Evelyn Nelson, Sleepy Hollow

The sophomore forward had a huge game in the Headless Horsemen's 6-0 win over Nanuet, netting four goals and assisting on the other two.

Kacey Pritts, Pearl River

The sophomore midfielder, who's known for her strong drives and passes, had a goal and three assists in a 4-1 win over Nanuet and a goal and an assist in a 5-0 win over Nyack. She also had a strong game in a 1-0 setback to Suffern.
