DOVER ‒ A group of parents is spearheading efforts to raise the remaining funds needed to install turf at the girls' softball field at Dover City Park.

Around $90,000 is still needed to complete the project, which is estimated to cost between $190,000 and $200,000. The city has already allocated $100,000 to the work.

Rachel Molk, spokesperson for the parents group, said conditions at the softball field are bad.

"The current condition of our field and our batting cage is just rundown, not good," she said. "It's difficult for us to have games. Even if it rains two days before, the fields just hold water."

New turf was installed at the high school baseball field two years ago.

Molk said the group hopes to finish raising money by the end of August. The plan is to have the work done in the fall. Once completed, the field will be used by the softball team and other Dover youth teams.

Donations for the project can be sent to Auditor Nicole Stoldt, 122 E. Third St., Dover, Ohio 44622. Put Girls Softball Field in the memo line of the check.
