Fiery temperatures in Palm Springs liquify popsicles

A brutal heat wave punishing the U.S. West pushed temperatures toward all-time records for a third day on Sunday (July 11) with California registering some of the hottest temperatures on the planet.

In Death Valley in California, a fiery 130-degrees Fahrenheit (54 Celsius) was registered, making it again one of the world's hottest places.

The National Weather Service issued excessive heat warnings across much of the region and cautioned residents that the high temperatures could be hazardous to the their health, especially small children and the elderly.
