Fiery wreck involving a fleeing car leaves two men dead and another hurt, cops say

Two men were killed and another man was critically injured in a fiery wreck early Sunday morning in Opa-locka after the driver of a Dodge Charger slammed into their gray Ford Mustang, Miami-Dade police said.

Three blocks before the crash, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper tried to pull the driver of the white Charger over because he had run a red light, according to a news release.

The car had originally come to attention of law enforcement after cops — responding to a ShotSpotter call — saw the car fleeing “at a high rate of speed” from the area of Northwest 62nd Street and 22nd Avenue, police said. The cops gave a description over the police radio.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m. Sunday at Northwest 135 Street and 22nd Avenue.

Killed were Edmond McCoy, 34 and Robinson Lazard, 37. Both were local deejays, according to WPLG Local 10.

McCoy wrote on his Facebook Page that he went by DJ Boogie. Channel 10 said Lazard went by DJ Styles. The pair was on their way back after a late-night gig, the station reported. They both were in the Mustang.

“I’m just lost; I lost my one and only son,” McCoy’s mother Theresa Christian told Channel 10. “I lost him, and I’m just lost.”

The driver of the Charger, Burt Saint Louis, 27, was critically injured, police say.

All three were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where McCoy and Lazard died.

Police said charges were pending against Saint Louis.

Shortly after the crash, friends and family of Lazard began posting comments on a Facebook Live post from Saturday.

“Damm little cousin, can’t believe you gone,” one person wrote.

Another: “Here today gone tomorrow may they Rest In Peace.”
