It's fiesta time with Cinco de Mayo events, deals

May 2—Given that Cinco de Mayo is traditionally a holiday when people party, you may already have plans in place.

If you're a Mento Buru fan, you have tickets to the sold-out Cinco de Mayo at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace. (Or you're ready to cry in your cerveza.)

For those who want to tie one on, you've probably already have your favorite watering hole picked out.

Anyone who wants to enjoy some tacos or enjoy some music where you may not need reservations, please read on.

Go old school at Arizona Cafe (809 Baker St.), which will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with $5 drink specials on margaritas, palomas, micheladas, mimosas and bloody marys.

Bike Bakersfield is ready to lead you on a Cinco de Mayo Full Moon Ride. Starting at 6:30 p.m. at Beach Park (21st and Oak streets), riders will head out to Ethel's Old Corral for a festive evening under the full moon.

All riders who are 16 years or younger must wear a helmet and have lights on their bikes.

Bako Market will hold a night market from 5 to 9 p.m. at Centennial Plaza outside Mechanics Bank Arena, 1001 Truxtun Ave. Vendors include

The Kitchen (1317 20th St.) is hosting a Cinco De Mayo event with food, beer, dancing and music by DJ Flako.

Held from 7 p.m. to midnight, the evening will include dancing, drinking and eating with the Kitchen crew.

Cost is $50, which includes tacos and other Mexican cuisine, three beers and an opportunity to to relax or dance into the night.

When the hunger hits, head to Taco Bros (4521 Ming Ave.), which will give away two birria tacos with any drive-thru order on Cinco de Mayo. Limit is two free tacos per vehicle with purchase.

Speaking of free food, El Pollo Loco's Loco Rewards members can snag a free crunchy birria taco with the purchase of any shredded beef birria entrée. The offer is valid for one day only for new and existing rewards members.

Only for Cinco de Mayo, Cask Strength Bar and Kitchen (1623 19th St., Suite 300) will serve horchata ice cream sandwiches with a spiced cinnamon rum glaze. The restaurant will also offer a Mexican pizza as well as tequila specials.

Los Tacos De Huicho (123 E 18th St.) will hand out a goodie bag filled with Mexican candy with each order while supplies last.

Campo Bar + Bottle (1824 G St.) will serve Mexican wines as a flight or by the glass along with beers starting at noon. Street tacos will be available from 6 to 8 p.m.

Also downtown, 2nd Phase Brewing (1004 19th St.) will debut a new beer and feature music by Word of Mouth starting at 7 p.m. Oh, Boy Po'boy! food truck will be serving food from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Enjoy live music at 18th Street Bar and Grill (816 18th St.) from 7 to 10 p.m. with CC Amore and El Chal Guana. There will also be taco, margarita and tequila deals all night.

Red Pepper Restaurant (2641 Oswell St. Suite G) will offer a special with a house margarita and two fiesta tacos (carne asada or chicken) for $14. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and reservations are recommended by calling 661-871-5787.

El Puesto Cocina y Cantina (3700 California Ave.) will have $25 beer buckets, $10 margaritas and $6 shooters. DJ Kosmo will keep the party going until midnight.

Sister business El Puesto Cocina & Lounge (2060 White Lane) will serve micheladas, shooters and tequila infusion shots all for $5 all day. Bottle and VIP service will be available. Live entertainment will be provided by Erick y La Secta and DJ Frank.

Sonder (9500 Brimhall Road, Suite 100) will serve a taco plate ($15) with three tacos, choosing from chicken, beef or discada carbon (beef, chorizo and bacon), as well as cilantro lime rice and pot beans. Drink specials include $4 Modelos and Coronas, $10 margaritas and $8 Patron shots.

Temblor Brewing Co. (3200 Buck Owens Blvd.) will have food specials all day including salsa flight (house smoked red and green as well as classic red), carne asada street taco trio (with each of the three salsas) and chile verde sandwich, made with chunks of pork, topped with verde sauce, Monterey Jack cheese, salsa crema and pickled jalapenos on a French roll. There will also be $4 pints of El Cerrito and music by Mariachi Aguilas de Bakersfield from 7 to 9 p.m.

Kern River Brewing (13415 Sierra Way in Kernville) will have live music by Devyn Brinsfield from 7 to 9 p.m. along with food specials including street tacos, nachos, a Southwest salad — all with choice of carne asada or shrimp — and a dulce de leche cheesecake.

Lino's Mexican Cuisine (2911 Taft Highway) will have a happy hour from 2:30 p.m. until closing as well as a special with two tacos and a house margarita for $9.95.

Pour House Bar and Grill (4041 Fruitvale Ave.) will have music starting at 6 p.m. with Tracy Peoples, Mike Fleming and Rodney Armstrong, food by Chef Lino and drink specials.

Now through Sunday, Toasted (6603 Panama Lane, #103) is serving Jarrito-mosas, mimosas made with Jarritos soda, and chamoy-dipped Nutrls vodka seltzers.

At participating 7-Eleven locations, 7Rewards and Speedy Reward members can snag 10 mini tacos for just $2 through May 5. The crunchy tacos are filled with spicy beef, green chilies, jalapeno peppers and cilantro.

If you're not in the mood for Mexican food, Applebee's is offering your choice of any of its handcrafted burgers with classic fries and a fountain drink for $10.99, now through May 7.

Buffalo Wild Wings (3316 Coffee Road, 5677 Gosford Road) will have a special happy hour with items including $5 strawberry margaritas from 3 to 6 p.m. and $4 chips and guacamole from 9 p.m. to closing.
