Fifteen girls compete for Bratwurst queen, princess and junior princess

Five young women are competing for the title of Bratwurst Festival Queen this year.

The pageant will take place on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Schine’s Art Park. In the event of inclement weather, it will move to the Bucyrus Elementary School auditorium. Competing this year are Hermoiney Greenler, Raven Sharrock, Jovey Seville, Jasmine Taylor and Makenzie Sweeney, according to a news release from royalty coordinator Kylie Grau.

Last year, Bratwurst Festival Queen Abigail Brocwell was dethroned just days before the start of the festival, creating an online frenzy.

Controversy erupted after Abigail Brocwell was ousted as Bucyrus Bratwurst Festival queen just days ahead of the 2022 event. Throughout August, the story of the battle between the festival board and the deposed queen became a topic of interest across the state and nation.

This year's Bratwurst Festival is Aug. 17-19.

Hermoiney Greenler

Hermoiney Greenler is the granddaughter of Jane and Michael Greenler, as well as the niece of David Greenler. She will be a junior at Wynford High School. At school she participates in the Royal Singers, marching band and music class, playing the French horn, mellophone, and B flat horn. She also plays piano and has started to learn the guitar. Hermoiney attends St. Paul’s Lutheran and is a part of Sunday School and youth group. She sings in the adult choir and Acolytes. Hermoiney also does confirmation class with her grandmother.

Hermoiney loves taking care of animals and plants. In her free time Hermoiney enjoys sports. She has been on teams for track, soccer, basketball, and wrestling. She also plays baseball and football with family and friends. Hermoiney has a special passion towards baking, and a love of reading, writing and learning.

In the future, Hemoiney hopes to earn her business associates degree through Marion Tech, and later, pursue a four-year criminology degree. She has the goal of attending law school to become a criminal defense attorney.

Hermoiney is a proud military child who has traveled many places. Her favorite place to travel was San Francisco.

Hermoiney wants to be the Bratwurst Festival Queen to show other girls that it doesn’t matter if you grew up in Bucyrus that if you want to be a part of the festival you can. That if you have confidence in yourself and perseverance you can accomplish great things.

Raven Storm Sharrock

Raven Storm Sharrock is the daughter of Aaron Sharrock, and the sister of Kaiden Justice and Keenan Foster Sharrock. Raven will be a junior at Colonel Crawford High School, where she is in the marching band, football cheerleading, Vision Show Choir, women’s show choir: Treble Threat, 602 Rock Band, Senior Choir, Women’s Chorus, swim team, concert band, theater and T.I. Youth Board.

Raven attends Upper Sandusky First Presbyterian Church. She dances tap and pointe with Douce Dance Studio and has participated in productions at the Bucyrus Little Theater, Galion Community Theater and Colonel Crawford High School. She also takes voice lessons with Eric Julian Walker.

Raven’s favorite vacation was to Spain when she went to see her sister who was teaching abroad.

Raven enjoys singing, acting and dancing. In the future Raven would love to pursue an occupation in the performing arts.

Raven said she would like to be the Bratwurst Festival Queen because, “as long as I can remember I have wanted to represent my community throughout the state as our Bratwurst Festival Queen. I believe we have the best festival in the state, and I want to be able to share that feeling with everyone.”

Jovey Seville

Jovey Seville is the daughter of Nick and Becky Seville. She has sisters Brenna and Sadie, and brothers Joseph, Michael, and Daniel. Jovey is a homeschool student and will be in the ninth grade. Jovey enjoys Senedot Stripes basketball, homeschool choir and homeschool co-op classes at Crawford Success Center.

Jovey attends church at Ignite 365 Outreach and ReIgnite Youth Group. Her hobbies are basketball, cooking and reading.

Her favorite vacation was to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for a basketball tournament, which she won. “It was a great opportunity to grow closer to my friends and get better at basketball,” she said.

Jovey plans to attend career school in the future for culinary arts and to get her associates degree in business.

Jovey said she would like to be the Bratwurst Festival Queen “because I enjoy helping in my community. I think I would be a great candidate based off my personality and willingness to serve others like Jesus did.”

Jasmine Nadia Taylor

Jasmine Nadia Taylor is the daughter of JJ and Rachel Taylor. She has 7 siblings; Noah, Colin, Juliana, David, Aaron, Judah, and Jericho. Jasmine is homeschooled, and will be in the 10th grade. She enjoys singing in the North Central Ohio Homeschool Choir, and taking classes with the Seekers of Wisdom Homeschool Co-op. She also enjoys playing Senedot Stripes volleyball and basketball because she has the opportunity to travel in state and out of state.

Jasmine is a member of Victory in Truth Ministries and volunteers at her church. She does community service with the Seekers of Wisdom Homeschool Co-op, and is a teen member of Reignite and CSI Ministries and volunteers at her church.

In her spare time, Jasmine enjoys drawing, reading history books, photography, and horseback riding on trail rides.

Jasmine’s favorite vacation was to Vermont where she visited with her great aunt and took in the beauty of the state of Vermont.

Her future plans are to continue high school with Seekers of Wisdom Co-op and take college courses at North Central State College. She is thinking about taking cosmetology classes and completing the police academy.

Jasmine wants to be the Bratwurst Festival Queen because "I think it would be a great opportunity to show kindness to others and share the German culture to people as I travel to different festivals."

Makenzie Ann Sweeney

Makenzie Ann Sweeney is the daughter of Melissa Sweeney, and sister to Kyona (Key--on--uh), Nolen, and Kaden Sweeney.  She will be in the 10th grade at Wynford High School in the fall.

Makenzie enjoys cheerleading, choir and Interact Club activities at school.

She  attends Victory in Truth Ministries.  Makenzie has volunteered to Clean up Aumiller Park, and has spent time with nursing home residents playing bingo.  She is a first year camp counselor for 4-H, a vacation Bible school helper and nursery helper at church.

In her spare time, Makenzie enjoys crafts,  Roller skating and cheerleading.

Her favorite place traveled was to Florida, because she said it is "the Sunshine State and is warm year around. " She also enjoys the beautiful beaches and having so many different places in Florida to visit.

In the future, Makenzie plans to join the U.S. Navy after graduation from high school.

Mackenzie would love to be the Bratwurst Festival Queen because she said she is responsible and would make a good role model to other youth to be confident, positive and know they can do anything that they set their minds to do. " I would love to be queen as it has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl, and l would love to give back to the community," she added.

Three to compete for Bratwurst Princess

Three girls are competing for the title of Bratwurst Festival Princess on August 12 at noon on the Schine’s Art Park stage.

Brenna Madelynn Seville

Brenna Madelynn Seville is the daughter of Nick and Becky Seville and is the sister of Jovey, Joseph, Sadie, Micah, and Daniel Seville. She participates in several activities, such as her homeschool hangout, homeschool’s choir and homeschool co-op classes through the Crawford Success Center.

Brenna is a member of Ignite 365 Outreach & Re-Ignite Youth Group. She also participates in Christmas Caroling at local nursing homes. In her free time, Brenna enjoys camping because she can spend time with her friends and family and play outdoors. She also enjoys making crafts with various hands-on mediums, such as wood and paint. She likes to bake yummy treats, such as truffles, for her friends and family.

Brenna’s favorite place to travel to was Hershey, Penn., because she got to spend time with her sister and make a custom chocolate bar.

In the future, Brenna would like to be either an actress or dental hygienist. To Brenna, the qualities essential for being a princess include being loyal to the community and being committed to making Bucyrus more known, as well as kindness and willingness to spread wherever they go.

Brenna would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Princess to help and give back to the community in ways, such as blessing bags and hygiene necessities. She would love to travel to new places and meet new people. She wants to learn more about different cultures in Ohio. Brenna sees being the princess as a great opportunity to be more involved in the Bucyrus Community. One of Brenna’s goals is to bring Bucyrus to the rest of Ohio.

Keira Ann Dunfee

Keira Ann Dunfee is the daughter of Rachel and Jason Dunfee. She is the older sister of Lyncoln Dunfee. She currently attends William Crawford Intermediate School where she has consistently been on either the merit roll or honor roll since kindergarten. She also participates in Colonel Crawford’s cheerleading teams for their seventh-grade football and basketball seasons.

Keira is a member of the Bucyrus Nazarene Church, where she is a helped for the younger children who attend the church as well as a volunteer for Vacation Bible School. In her free time, Keira enjoys participating on the YMCA gymnastics team as it has been something she has enjoyed her whole life, playing the piano because of her love of music (having earned several accolades), and improving her skills, especially in doing her own hair and makeup. Keira's favorite place to travel to was the Outer Banks, NC, because she got to play in the ocean for the first time and visit her mom’s side of the family there.

In the future, Keira would like to be an elementary school teacher as well as a gymnastics coach. To Keira, the qualities essential for being a princess include caring for others and always trying to make other people’s day a little brighter, being outgoing, and being kind. Keira would like to be the Bratwurst Festival Princess because she wants to represent her county and show she cares for the people in the community. She enjoys meeting new people and getting to know them. She spends a lot of time at the Bratwurst Festival eating food, playing games, and riding rides. She is excited to travel to festivals, ride on the float, and wear her dirndl. Keira grew up in the community and says it would be an honor to represent her hometown and participate in the Royalty Program.

Juliana Grace Taylor

Juliana Grace Taylor is the daughter of JJ and Rachel Taylor. She is the sister of Noah, Jasmine, Colin, David, Aaron, Judah, and Jericho Taylor. She participates in several activities, such as her homeschool’s choir through North Central Ohio, ballet with Simple Gifts, and Seekers of Wisdom homeschool co-op classes.

Juliana is involved in several local churches, is a leader in the Junior Ministry Team, and participates in the Youth Praise Team. She also acts with the Bucyrus Little Theater, volunteers at Vacation Bible School, and the Seekers of Wisdom homeschool co-op. She is a pre-teen member of Bucyrus Nazarene and Re-Ignite Ministries and is a 4-H participant in Crawford County.

In her free time, Juliana enjoys singing because it brings her a sense of serenity. She also enjoys acting and dancing because she meets new people and expresses her feelings in the different music genres. Juliana’s favorite people to travel to is Vermont because she got to visit her Aunt Marilyn there and make great family memories.

In the future, Juliana would like to go to college to become a doctor. To Juliana, the qualities essential for being a princess include talking and laughing with others, being a people person, being helpful and caring, and being willing to serve others and be a role model. Juliana would like to become the Bratwurst Festival Princess because she has always wanted to participate in the pageant and be a princess. Juliana feels that a princess can do important things for her community and she hopes to help others. She hopes participating in the pageant will create a new opportunity to give back.

Seven want to be Bratwurst Festival Junior Princess

Seven contestants will compete for the title of Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess on August 12 at 2 p.m. on the Schines Art Park Stage.

Marabel Kepler

Marabel Kepler is the daughter of Michael and Miranda Kepler. She is the younger sister of Madi Kepler. Marabel is a member of the Kids Flower Club, Peas in a Pod, where they volunteer to water plants and flowers around the community. When Marabel grows up, she wants to be a first grade teacher or a flamingo caregiver.

Her three most favorite hobbies include creating art with the Crawford County Arts Council because she likes to be creative, playing chess because it is challenging, and spending time outdoors where she can swim, garden, ride her bike and explore. Her favorite place she has traveled is to any and all beaches because she loves to swim, build sand castles and look for shells or small sea creatures.

This is Marabel’s first time participating in the Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess pageant. She wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess because she wants to meet new people, wear a pretty dress and have fun. Marabel believes that the junior princess should be good to others, always tell the truth, and help others whenever possible.

Jolee Sparks

Jolee Sparks is the daughter of Matt and Bobbi Sparks. She is the sister of Barrin and Kinlee Sparks. In the fall, Jolee will be entering third grade at Bucyrus Elementary School and enjoys playing soccer and basketball. When she grows up, Jolee wants to become a veterinarian or work at a dog day care.

Her three most favorite hobbies include playing with her friends, playing sports and swimming. Her favorite place she has traveled is Florida because she got to see the ocean for the first time and go to Universal Studios.

Jolee previously ran in the Baby Miss Blueberry, Wee Miss Blueberry Festival, and the 2022 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess pageants. She also won the 2015 Bratwurst Festival Pretty Baby Contest. She wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess because she wants to learn new things, travel to new festivals and make new friends. Jolee believes a junior princess should be smart, kind and loving.

Charlotte Harp

Charlotte Harp is the daughter of Elaine Winkley. She is the younger sister of Neveah Winkley and Braelynn Dickenson and the older sister of Cahira Winkley, Azlynn Winkley, and Skyla Harp. In the fall, Charlotte will be entering second grade at Bucyrus Elementary School. She is involved in Girl Scouts, Walking Club, and T-ball. This year, Charlotte wants to learn how to fish, do her time tables, and write in cursive. When she grows up, Charlotte aims to go to college and become a doctor, police officer, or pilot.

Her three most favorite hobbies include playing t-ball because she loves to practice and get better, learning about butterflies because they help flowers grow, and drawing because she’s very good at it. Her favorite place she’s traveled to is Hilton Head, SC, because she had the opportunity to go to the beach, stop by the local library and visit with her grandma.

Charlotte wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Junior Princess because she would like to celebrate her German heritage and wear a dirndl, crown, and sash. Charlotte believes a junior princess should be nice, smart, and mature.

Annabelle 'Annie' Lynn

Annabelle “Annie” Lynn is the daughter of Jason and Kimberly Lynn. She is the younger sister of Sheldon and Abby Lynn. In the fall, Annie will be entering third grade at Bucyrus Elementary School and enjoys running with her cross county team, going to volleyball camp and participating in mini cheer. She is also involved in Girl Scouts and collects toys at the Bucyrus Firefighters’ toy drive during the Christmas season. When she grows up, Annie wants to get good grades, go to college and become a veterinarian.

Her three most favorite hobbies include playing softball because she likes to hit the ball, run cross county and learn new things. Her favorite place she has traveled to is Disney because it was fun.

Annie wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess because she wants to meet new people and make new friends, ride in the parades, and represent her favorite festival, the Bratwurst Festival. Annie believes a junior princess should be kind, helpful, and loyal.

Priscilla Perdue

Priscilla Perdue is the daughter of Spencer and Amanda Perdue. She is the sister of JoyAnna, Beretta, Stetson, Arrow, and Willow Perdue. In the fall, Priscilla will be entering third grade and participating in the soccer and swim teams. She is also involved in 4-H as a Cloverbud. When she grows up, Priscilla wants to be a veterinarian.

Her three most favorite hobbies include playing soccer because she likes to run, coloring because she likes to be creative, and swimming because it is fun. Her favorite place she has traveled to is Louisiana because she had the opportunity to meet Phil Robertson.

Priscilla previously ran in the 2022 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess pageant. Priscilla wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess because she wants to attend festivals, collect charms, ride in parades and make new friends. She believes a junior princess should be kind, smart and outgoing.

Lacey Tate

Lacey Tate is the daughter of Dustin and Emely Tate. She is the older sister of Austin and Silas Tate. In the fall, Lacey will be entering third grade and participating in the River Valley Soccer Camp, Galion Soccer Club Clinics, Lowe-Volk Nature Camp and the Homeschool Co-op. When she grows up, Lacey would like to take training and safety classes to become a lifeguard and babysitter.

Her three most favorite hobbies include playing with her brothers because they like to ride bikes, learning about horses because they are fast and playing croquet because she likes the challenge of getting the ball through the hoops. Her favorite place she has traveled to is Florida because she likes to visit the manatee park.

Lacey wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Jr. Princess because she wants to make new friends, learn more social skills and have new experiences. She believes a junior princess should be cheerful and friendly.

Sophia Hartline

Sophia Hartline is the daughter of Courtney and Spenser Hartline. She is the older sister of Carter Hartline. In the fall, Sophia will be entering third grade at Wynford Elementary School and participates in softball, piano and competitive cheerleading. When she grows up, Sophia wants to cheer for the Ohio State University and become a teacher or police officer.

Her three most favorite hobbies include cheerleading because she likes learning stunts and routines, playing softball because it is fun to hit the ball and run the bases, and riding her Hoverboard because she can do tricks. Her favorite place she has traveled to is Tennessee because she got to go on a UTV tour in the mountains and stayed in a cabin.

Sophia wants to become the 2023 Bratwurst Festival Junior Princess because she wants to represent her hometown, meet new people, and try her hand at something new. Sophia believes a junior princess should be caring, determined, kind, smart, generous, and confident.
