Fifth APD officer resigns amid investigation into DWI unit
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A fifth Albuquerque Police Department officer tied to the federal investigation into allegations of wrongdoing by officers within APD’s DWI unit has resigned. APD Police Chief Harold Medina said Joshua Montaño submitted his resignation on Wednesday after he failed to appear for multiple interviews with internal affairs.

The investigation into the DWI unit centers on accusations that officers were taking bribes to get DWI cases dropped. Since the investigation began, six officers have been placed on leave, four of whom have resigned from their positions. Other officers who have resigned are Honorio Alba, Harvey Johnson, Nelson Ortiz, and Lieutenant Justin Hunt.
At this time, no one has been charged, and the investigation is ongoing.
