For fifth year, ‘Hocus Pocus’ tops Halloween week movie list, now has new milkshake available

Hocus Pocus” is still putting a spell on people.

The 1993 comedy horror film, starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker, has continued its cult-classic stature after bombing at the box office.

For the past five years, the Kenny Ortega film has ranked as the No. 1 film fans streamed, rented or purchased during Halloween week.

According to Fandango, “Hocus Pocus” has consistently been the week’s most-watched movie on its transactional video-on-demand service, Vudu.

“As many entertainment fans bring their Halloween festivities home this year, there’s no shortage of spooky content to suit every taste, from recent hits to cult classics,” Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis said. “While written off as a box office bomb when it first debuted nearly three decades ago, ‘Hocus Pocus’ has since gone on to become a new classic as the top Halloween perennial and the most-watched Halloween movie on Vudu for five years in a row.”

The popular Disney film follows a villainous comedic trio of sister witches in Salem, Mass., who are accidentally resurrected by a teenage boy on Halloween night.

Parker, who became iconic as Carrie Bradshaw on HBO’s “Sex and the City” years later, sang the theme song, commonly referred to as “Come Little Children,” for the movie.

The original “Halloween” (No. 20), 1988 1/4 u2032s “Child Play” (No. 18), Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” (No. 10), “Poltergeist” (No. 6) and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (No.2) are among the top 20 most-watched movies.

This year, the film has also morphed into an ice cream treat.

Freeform has joined forces with Carvel to offer a new Hocus Pocus Shake to celebrate the network’s annually anticipated “31 Nights of Halloween” movie lineup.

Through Nov. 1, the magic potion of Carvel’s signature vanilla soft serve mixed with Oreo Cookie pieces, topped with whipped cream and Halloween sprinkles will be served in a 31 Nights of Halloween x Hocus Pocus limited edition cup.

From Oct. 9 through Oct. 11, fans can take advantage of the $0 delivery fees on all Carvel orders through Uber Eats.

“Hocus Pocus” is now available on Vudu and on FandangoNOW in 4K and on sale for $9.99.
