Fifth Third Bank to open first Indian Land branch, close Elizabeth location

Fifth Third Bancorp is permanently closing an Elizabeth branch and opening another in Indian Land this year, the bank confirmed to CBJ.

The Indian Land location will be a full-service branch at 7734 Charlotte Highway. Fifth Third is looking to open the branch late in this year’s third quarter or early in Q4, a spokesperson at the bank told CBJ.

Because we already have a large number of commercial and consumer customers in Indian Land, it is one of our most requested areas for a new Fifth Third branch,” said Lee Fite, the bank’s regional president. “We are extremely excited to add this location.”

Fifth Third said the closure of its Elizabeth branch at 1933 Seventh St. was not anticipated.

“Unfortunately, the Elizabeth branch is in an area that floods regularly, and water has flowed into the branch and vault on multiple occasions,” a bank spokesperson said. “The flooding is not a situation that can be repaired.”
