Fightin Phils replay: New Hampshire 5, Reading 4

Jul. 24—Friday's game

New Hampshire 5

Reading 4

Game recap: The Fightin Phils scored four in the ninth to fall one run short and suffered their second straight loss to the Fisher Cats in a Double-A Northeast League Game at Delta Dental Stadium.

Right-hander Casey Lawrence, an Albright College product, started and pitched five shutout innings to earn the win for New Hampshire in his first Double-A appearance since 2016. He allowed two hits, walked two and struck out four.

Lawrence had been 2-2 with an 8.22 ERA in 13 games at Triple-A Buffalo.

New Hampshire (30-36) led 5-0 after scoring single runs in the first and third innings and three in the fifth.

In the ninth for Reading (28-42), Grenny Cumana singled and Rodolfo Duran walked against reliever Will McAffer. After McCarthy Tatum popped out, Colby Fitch walked to load the bases.

McAffer was replaced by Kyle Johnston, who allowed a single to Luke Miller that knocked in Reading's first run. Matt Kroon then walked to make it 5-2.

Arquimedes Gamboa (2-for-4) followed with a grounder to third. The Fisher Cats got the force at second, but a throwing error on second baseman Otto Lopez allowed two runs to score.

Logan Landon was called out on strikes on a 3-2 pitch to end it as Johnston recorded his second save.

Fightins starter Adam Leverett (0-3) allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out four.

Tyler Carr (one perfect inning) and James McArthur (one walk in three innings) shut down New Hampshire over the final four innings.

Phillers: Right-hander Noah Skirrow was added to the Reading roster from High-A Jersey Shore Friday. The 23-year-old, signed as an amateur free agent last summer out of Liberty, had a 1.21 ERA in 22.1 innings over seven games, four starts, for the BlueClaws. He also pitched three shutout innings in two rehab appearances for the Rookie-level FCL Phillies.

On deck: Reading and New Hampshire play the fifth game of their five-game series Saturday at 7:05 at Delta Dental Stadium.
