Tennis fans have a chance to catch a glimpse of the top American tennis players this week at the BNP Paribas Open. But starting Monday, they'll also have the opportunity to see some potential stars of tomorrow.

The FILA International Junior Championships are set to begin at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open on Monday as the tournament debuts its first amateur event. The tournament will feature top North American junior players and run from March 13-19 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden alongside main draw play of the BNP Paribas Open.

Headlining the player fields for the junior event are No. 1 seeds Kyle Kang and Iva Jovic, respectively, for the boys’ and girls’ singles competition. Kang, 18, enters the FILA International Junior Championships fresh off a run to the Round of 16 at the 2023 Australian Open boys’ singles tournament. Jovic, a Southern California native, is a 2021 Easter Bowl and Junior Orange Bowl champion.

Other notable players expected to play include third-seeded Clervie Ngounoue, who arrives in the desert after recently adding her second career ITF title earlier this month in Texas. Jagger Leach, the son of six-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Indian Wells champion Lindsay Davenport, will also be in action on the same courts his mom once dominated. Davenport is a two-time BNP Paribas Open winner.

The introduction of this amateur event in Indian Wells comes as part of FILA’s ongoing commitment to the future of the sport.

Fans attending the 2023 BNP Paribas Open can see these young stars in action and experience the junior championships with a daily tournament grounds pass. The event will feature a 48-person singles draw and 24-team doubles draw, with matches held on Practice Courts 15-20 of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The championship matches for each draw will be held in Stadium 2 beginning at 10 a.m. on March 19, with the girls’ and boys’ singles champions receiving wild cards into qualifying draws for the 2024 BNP Paribas Open.
