File city income tax returns early to avoid hassles

NEW PHILADELPHIA − Tax Day is April 18 this year.

New Philadelphia Income Tax Administrator Vicki Daniels urges residents to file their 2022 city tax returns early to avoid possible frustration and possible long waits.

If you need help in filling out your 2022 city return, visit the Income Tax Department.

"The staff will be able to assist you with simple New Philadelphia tax returns through April 7, but please plan for a possible wait. The staff will not be able to assist you after April 7," Daniels said.

She reminds residents to to include all documentation and payment if a balance is due, or come to the department on or before April 7, if assistance is needed. Payments can be made by cash, check, or money order, and online through PSN on the City’s website: www.newphilaoh.com. The website is also where the 2022 general income tax form can be found and downloaded.

New Philadelphia does have online filing, and a six-digit Tax ID Number is needed to e-file. Contact the Income Tax Department to obtain your six-digit number.

Income tax returns must be mailed and postmarked by April 18 or dropped off in the New Philadelphia Income Tax Department to be considered on time.

The department hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. An after-hours drop slot is on the west side of the building. The office is in the lower level of the Knisely Municipal Center, 150 E. High Ave.

If you are granted an extension for filing your federal income tax return, you may also have an extension for filing your New Philadelphia return provided a copy of the federal extension is included with your 2022 return when filed. Granting an extension does not extend the time for paying city tax liability; it only extends the time for filing the tax return.

For more information, contact the Income Tax Department 330-364-4491 extension 1231.
