How to file taxes for free in Pa.

(WBRE/WYOU) — The tax season is upon us and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is offering a free way for taxpayers to file their tax returns.

Through myPATH, Pennsylvanians can submit their 2023 personal income tax returns for free.

“If you’re looking to avoid paying a fee to file your personal income tax return in Pennsylvania, myPATH is a great option,” Revenue Secretary Pat Browne said.

MyPATH is available on computers, tablets, and cell phones.

According to a release from the Department of Revenue, taxpayers don’t need to make a username or password to file income tax returns, make payments, or add additional information.

To file, you need to provide myPATH with your social security number and either the tax liability from the previous year or your driver’s license.

If you need assistance, it is available by calling 717-787-8201 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Officials said taxpayers could also set up an appointment with a Department of Revenue district office for in-person assistance.

The Department of Revenue would like to remind everyone that income tax returns are due by April 15, 2024.

Taxpayers can check the status of their refunds online by selecting the “Where’s My Income Tax Refund?” link on the department’s homepage or by calling 1-888-PATAXES. It is important to note that taxpayers will be prompted to provide their Social Security number and requested refund amount to obtain the current status.

Free tax forms and instructions are available on the Department of Revenue’s website.
