Filing for the 2022 elections in Randolph County has halted. Here are the candidates that applied so far
Candidate filing for the 2022 statewide primary and rescheduled municipal elections began at noon on Monday, Dec. 6. Primary elections will take place on May 17.
Melissa Johnson, director for the Randolph County Board of Elections, said there are five people who have already opened candidate committees to campaign for sheriff, two for clerk of court and two for Superior Court judge. Johnson anticipates that at least one person will file to run for every other open contest.

Johnson said the filing process includes candidates paying the filing fee, working with staff members to file a notice of candidacy, then completing paperwork to open a candidate committee, if the candidate has not already done so.
"The Randolph County Board of Elections has experienced staff who will guide each candidate through the process, provide information, and answer questions," Johnson said. "We have already worked with and provided preliminary information to many candidates to prepare for filing."
The filing stopped after the primary elections were moved to May instead of March 8. No more filing will take place until a new period is designated.
North Carolina's highest court on Wednesday pushed back the March election primaries for legislative, congressional and judicial seats to give state courts time to review lawsuits claiming the Republican-controlled legislature illegally gerrymandered some districts, according to the Associated Press.
