Who filed for office in local elections?

During the first few days of filing for November’s local elections, 21 candidates threw their names in the hat for seats that include mayors, city councils and the water board.

Filing for municipal and water board elections opened last Friday at noon and will continue until noon on July 21.

Clifton Philbeck, board of elections director, said there are 47 open seats across 13 municipalities in addition to the water board.

As of Wednesday, there were two candidates vying for the position of mayor of Kings Mountain and out of the 21 who have filed, there is only one woman.

Candidates are required to come to the Board of Elections office at 215 Patton Drive in Shelby and complete a notice of candidacy and pay a filing fee.
