Filing deadline approaching for Union County May election

Mar. 8—LA GRANDE — The filing deadline for Union County's Tuesday, May 16, special district election is fast approaching.

The filing deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, March 16.

A total of more than 50 positions on the boards of 23 districts are up for election. The open seats are on boards in seven cemetery districts, six school districts, six fire districts, two health districts, one parks and recreation district and one sanitation district.

Each candidate who wishes to be on the ballot for an office listed must file a Declaration of Candidacy along with either a payment of $10 or a submission of at least 25 valid signatures from registered voters residing within the district.

Forms for filing are available at any district office and at the office of the Union County District Clerk.

All materials relating to filing as a candidate must be mailed to the Union County Clerk's Office, 1001 Fourth St., Suite D, La Grande 97850, or delivered in person. When people file by mail the materials must arrive by the filing deadline
