Filipino American Kataluna Enriquez Becomes First Trans Woman to Compete for Miss USA Title

Kataluna Enriquez is now set to become the first transgender woman to compete for the Miss USA title in November.

Making history: The 27-year-old contestant competed against 21 candidates for the Miss Nevada USA title at the South Point Hotel Casino & Spa in Las Vegas on Sunday, reported Rappler.

  • Enriquez will be representing Nevada during this year's Miss USA pageant after winning the Miss Silver State USA pageant, a preliminary competition for Miss Nevada USA.

  • She is the first transgender woman in the pageant’s history to win the title, according to Associated Press News.

  • If Enriquez wins the Miss USA pageant, which will be held on Nov. 29, she will go down in history as the second transgender woman to compete in the Miss Universe beauty pageant after Spain's Angela Ponce in 2018, CNN Philippines reported.

A big win: Several social media users took to Twitter to celebrate Enriquez’s win.
