Film about legendary Hollywood stuntman with local ties to debut in Clermont this weekend

A film about a Hollywood legend will debut in Central Florida Saturday.

“Kim Kahana: The Man Who Changed Hollywood” will have a one-time screening at Epic Theater in Clermont Saturday at 1 p.m.

Kahana was one of Hollywood’s most prolific stunt performers and action choreographers. The biopic stars James Level and tells the story of Kahana, who performed hundreds of stunts in movies including “Planet of the Apes,” “Smokey and the Bandit” and TV classics such as “Mission Impossible” and “Magnum, P.I.”

His most recognizable role was Chongo in “Danger Island,” part of the “Banana Splits Adventure Hour.”

Kahana, who also served in the Korean War, eventually opened his own stunt school in Groveland, right here in Central Florida.

Much of the film was shot at his Groveland stunt school, in addition to Orlando and New York City.

“Kim Kahana: The Man Who Changed Hollywood” was produced by George Buzzeo, who has a long career in independent filmmaking.
