There's a new production filming in the desert.

Patricia Arquette stars in the new Apple TV series "Swamp Flower," (listed on IMDB as "High Desert"). Executive produced by Arquette and Ben Stiller, among others, the series focuses on Peggy, (Arquette) a former addict, who decides to make a new start after the death of her beloved mother with whom she lived in the familiar desert town of Yucca Valley. Arquette's character then makes a life-changing decision to become a private investigator.

The series began filming locally Wednesday, and is scheduled to shoot from Jan. 19-22 in Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. The Greater Palm Springs Film Alliance and Film Office put out a casting notice earlier this month looking for background performers for the shoot. Many local actors have been cast, so keep your eyes peeled.

Apple announced the series in September of 2020. It is unclear if the production was delayed due to COVID-19. At that time, Stiller was set to direct the first episode along with his producing duties. IMDB lists Jay Roach as directing all eight episodes of the first season.

The series is created and written by Nancy Fichman (“Nurse Jackie,” “Damages”), Katie Ford (“Miss Congeniality”) and Jennifer Hoppe (“Grace and Frankie,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Damages”), who will also serve as executive producers.

Appearing in the series beside Academy Award, Emmy, BAFTA and Golden Globe winner Arquette, will be well-known actors Christine Taylor, Bernadette Peters, Matt Dillon and Brad Garrett, along with Jayden Gomez.

A release date has not been set.
