Final Michigan State shooting victim released from Sparrow Hospital

LANSING — The final student who has been hospitalized since Feb. 13 has been discharged from Sparrow Hospital, officials announced.

Michigan State University Police and Public Safety and Sparrow Health System spokesperson John Foren announced Tuesday that the last of five students was discharged from the Lansing hospital. The student is one of five wounded on Feb. 13 during a mass shooting at the university's Berkey Hall and MSU Union. Three students were killed.

Police and hospital officials have declined to identify any of the injured students. Families and students themselves, however, have identified the injured through fundraising and social media accounts.

Juniors Guadalupe Huapilla-Perez, Nate Statly, John Hao and Troy Forbush and a Chinese student whose name has not been disclosed were injured in the shooting. They're all now out of Sparrow Hospital as of Tuesday.

MSU extended the closure of Berkey Hall through the end of 2023. Parts of the MSU Union reopened Monday along with a reflection room that had notes of gratitude and support from the community.
