Final polls show Biden ahead of Trump in battleground states

Election Day has arrived, and polls show Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden ahead of President Donald Trump in key battleground states.

RealClearPolitics shows Biden leading Trump in Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona, ahead by a range of half a percentage point to nearly seven.

Four years ago, Trump was victorious in all of those states.

North Carolina and Arizona are being closely watched, as both have previously voted for Republicans. However, the two states have charged in their demographics.

In Arizona, Biden and Trump are tied at 48 percent each, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percent, according to CNBC.

Pennsylvania is also a toss-up. The birth state of Biden, he is currently leading there by 2.9 percent. It is considered a must-win.

The 2020 presidential election is already momentous. Early voting and mail-in voting exceeded 100 million this morning before polls opened.

In Texas, early voting has already surpassed the total number of votes in that state in the last presidential contest.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson tweeted yesterday that today, “after the polls close – no matter how long it takes – in Michigan, we will #CountEveryVote. That’s how elections work, and what democracy requires.”

She also noted that the state’s law doesn’t allow early ballots to be counted until the end of Election Day. Michigan’s more than 3 million votes may take days to tally.

President Trump has pushed back against the idea of votes being counted after Election Day, saying that it is “bad for our country.”

According to Saturday’s Cook Political Report, former Vice President Biden is “holding 24 states worth 290 electoral votes in his column.” A total of 270 electoral college votes are required to secure the presidency.

Trump safely holds just 20 states, worth 125 electoral votes.
