Sound Company to mount timeless play

Surreal and increasingly relevant today, "Machinal" tells the story of a young Anywoman suffocating in a society that wants her to be submissive and controlled by men. When this expressionist play by Sophie Treadwell premiered in 1928, the New York Times said, "In a hundred years, it should still be vital and vivid." The Sound Company will present the multidisciplinary work at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and May 25-27; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday and May 28, at MadLab Theatre, 227 N. 3rd St. Tickets are $16 regular admission and $12 student admission. A limited number of free tickets is available for K-12 educators. (thesoundcompany.org, 614-594-8252)
