Finally, Opening Night at Hilltop Speedway
MILLERSBURG -- After a long, extended winter, opening night was finally here at Hilltop Speedway as five divisions were set to make their first laps of the season on the Hill.
Starting off the night by parking it in victory lane, ‘The Flying Ace’ Corey Conley would pick up the first feature win of the season for the Holmes Tire late model division. Conley would lead green to checker, after fending off an early challenge by dash winner JR Gentry. Making late race moves through lap traffic, Cody Scott would pick up third, while Vic Hottinger and Cody Endlich would round out the top five. Dustin Smith would set fast time for the night with a 14.485. Heat races wins would go to TJ Watson and Caiden Black.
‘The Outlaw’ Jesse Wisecarver, no stranger to victory lane, would start the night off setting fast time, 15.503, among twenty-three Bugs-R-Gone modifieds and end his night sitting in victory lane. Wisecarver, in dominating fashion, would lead all twenty laps, placing a sizable lead between himself and second place, and dash winner, Joel Watson. Third went to heat race winner Greg Johnson, fourth to Bruce Takach, and fifth, heat race winner, DJ Cline. Robin Duston would also pick up a heat race win on the night with Travis Creech picking up the last chance race.
Next out were the Evan’s Elite Paving street stocks with a field of eight. Heat race winner, Kyle Moore, would set pole for the night’s event, where he would fend off Brad Hensel to claim his first feature win of the season. Kevin Potts would finish third followed by Brandon Craver and Jimmy Humphrey.
The Snyder Hot Shot Truck and Trailer modlites would feature a field of twenty-six, where Jimmy Smith, Braxton Wilson, Darrick Hubbard Jr and Logan Lewis each picked up a heat race win. With the field set, Smith would take the early lead. However, a caution on the initial lap, would bring out the yellow and bunch the field back up to the green. Wilson, challenging from the outside pole, would get the run into turn one. Smith, undeterred, would cross Wilson to regain the lead and pick up the feature win. McLoughlin with a lap ten pass, would claim second while Wilson, Hubbard Jr and Myers would round out the top five.
Jordan James, Tyler Parsons and Justin Cranmore would each pick up a win in the CPR mini stock division. With the drop of the green, Parsons would take the early lead over the field. Unfortunately, Parsons would go through the infield coming to the white flag, bringing out the caution. With the field bunched back up to the restart, Billy Parsons now on point would take the lead and pick up the feature win. Finishing second was Doug Hensel, third Jordan James, fourth Ryan Carter and fifth Ed Geary.
