FINALLY! | Reserved tickets for KC spring season on sale Tuesday

Mar. 6—Are you ready for some spring football, that counts?

The Kilgore College Rangers are. And they're about to play a belated 2020 season.

Back during the heat of the COVID-19 crisis last year, the NJCAA decided to delay its fall 2020 season to spring, 202 1—so the Rangers and most of the junior college football programs across the country, including all the programs in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, will start a season later this month.

Tickets for reserved home-side seats here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium, for KC home games, are going on sale for the public beginning Tuesday. Fans can purchase a ticket package, which includes one seat for each home game this year, for a total of $40. So, for a married couple to each have a seat at all the Rangers' home games this year, that couple would need to purchase two packages, a combined cost of $80.

The reserved sections are the two middle sections (B and C) of the home side of the stadium.

To buy the tickets, visit the KC athletic department offices (located at the entrance to the right of the Rangerette Museum on campus on Broadway Boulevard, at the Turner Physical Education Building.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, and on Friday, tickets can be purchased there between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. On the Thursday in the middle (March 11), tickets can be purchased from 9 a.m. until 4.

Next Thursday, March 18, ticket sale times are from 5:30 p.m. until 7, and from March 22-26, it's from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

KC has four games as part of the package: the season opener on Saturday, March 27, against Blinn, a 3 p.m. kickoff; Saturday, April 10, against New Mexico Military Institute, a 7 p.m. kickoff; a Thursday night game, on April 29, against Southern University-Shreveport, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, May 8, a 3 p.m. kickoff against Cisco.

It's important to note that no reserved tickets will be sold after March 26, and tickets at the gate of each home game will be the general admission, which are $7 each.

The News Herald plans a special section previewing the Rangers' season, and that will be a part of the print edition on Wednesday, March 24.

The Rangers, who will be led by coach Willie Gooden in his second full season as head coach, haven't taken the field since fall, 2019, but KC has won back-to-back regular season conference championships (2018 and 2019).

KC has won 26 conference championships, has produced 20 NFL players since 2000 (including Philadelphia's Lane Johnson, featured elsewhere in this issue for his contributions on a new weight-lifting room for KC student athletes), and is the winningest junior college program in Texas, with an all-time record of 491-289-13.

Gooden, originally from Hempstead, is in just his second season as head coach, but was a walk-on player here at KC in the early 2000s, a member of that undefeated 2001 team coached by current KC Athletic Director Jimmy Rieves, and has been an assistant since 2006.
