Finals are set for All American Futurity, Derby and Oaks

The fields are set for the All American Derby, All American Oaks and All American Futurity which will be run on Labor Day weekend at Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino. All three races will be contested at 440 yards. The horses with the 10 fastest times qualified for the finals.

All American Futurity field

The 10 horses for the All American Futurity for 2-year-old quarter horses were decided with trials on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Jes An Angel was the top qualifier with a time of 21.257 seconds for trainer and owner Lance R. Moore and jockey Bryan Candanosa. Jes An Angel was supplemented into the All American Futurity for $50,000.

The other qualifiers on Friday were Sicario V for trainer Santos Carrizales and jockey Juan Pulido, Hesjudgeandjury for trainer Heath Taylor and jockey Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo, Paige for trainer Clinton Crawford and jockey Jorge Torres and KJ Leader of the Pack for trainer Wesley T. Giles and jockey Adrian Ramos.

Giles and Ramos teamed up last year to win the All American Futurity with KJ Desparado.

Jes An Angel was purchased by owner Lance Moore of Midlothian, Texas, for $10,000 at the 2021 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale in Oklahoma.

“I remember it was late in the evening at the sale and I happened to still be there and was interested in this filly and somehow got her purchased,” Moore said. “She’s been a solid filly from the beginning making the finals of four stakes races.”

On Saturday, the Fred Danley-trained Doing Something Good was the top qualifier with a time of 21.424 seconds with Jockey Noe Garcia, Jr. aboard.

Taylor and Carrizales each had another horse qualify for the finals. Taylor qualified Chasing AJ and Orbyson qualified. Trainer John Stinebaugh and jockey Francisco Calderon qualified Curls Joyful Wagon and trainer Christopher Christopher O'Dell and jockey Eduardo Nicasio qualified JP General.

“This horse keeps getting better,” Danley said. “We see improvement every time he runs. It’s a matter of maturity and his natural ability to run down the race track. I think he can still get better especially at 440-yards.”

All American Oaks qualifiers

Toxic Relationship was the top qualifier with a time of 21.409 seconds for trainer Dean R. Frey and jockey Francisco Calderon.

Giles qualified Mperativ and KJ Brandy, Crawford qualified Sassalitical and Miss Beth Dutton, Kiss The Cartel qualified for trainer Trey Wood, Shesa Relentless Gal qualified for trainer Manuel R. Rodriguez, Political Rose qualified for trainer Monty Arrossa, Family Dynasty qualified for Stinebaugh and Sunshine Nmy Pocket qualified for trainer Xavier Rodriguez.

All American Derby qualifiers

Rainbow Derby winner A Pollitical Candy V earned the top qualifying time with a time of 21.227 seconds for Carrizales.

However, 2021 All American Futurity winner KJ Desparado, who won this summer's Ruidoso Derby and was second in the Rainbow Derby, just missed qualifying for the All American Derby with the 12th fastest time.

“This was his best race of the summer,” said Pulido of A Pollitical Candy V. “He seems to be in tremendous condition right now. He’s acclimated to the mountains and getting plenty of air. The horse gives me confidence going into the final.”

Fdd Scout, who is trained by Wood had the second fastest time. Fdd Scout was second in last year's All American Futurity. Danley will have a horse in the finals with Lethal Avenger, who was third in the Rainbow Derby and who ran in the Ruidoso Derby.

Wood also qualified Apollitical Eyeopener and Strong Soul. Trainer Eric Valenzuela qualified two, Muy Peligrosito and HT Double Jess.

Bomb Cyclone, who is trained by O'Dell, had the third fastest time of 21.292 despite being off since last December.

The other two qualifiers were Rodriguez' Whirlaway Wagon and Cody Noel's Delight Us All.
