The number of unemployed in Germany fell by only 20,000 to 2.75 million in April compared to March due to a weak spring recovery on the labour market, the Federal Labour Agency announced on Tuesday.

That is 164,000 more unemployed than a year ago.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged from March at 6%. Compared to the same month last year, the rate increased by 0.3 points.

For the April statistics, the Federal Employment Agency used data that was available up to the 15th of the month.

"The labour market still lacks an economic tailwind. The spring revival therefore remains weak," BA board member Daniel Terzenbach said in Nuremberg.

"Although the German economy has not gained momentum for two years, the situation on the labour market remains robust."
