Mitchell Main Street developer announces plans to open Italian restaurant inside downtown building

May 2—MITCHELL — Downtown Mitchell could be home to an Italian restaurant in 2025, with a new taste moving into refurbished building.

Chiara Adamo, the daughter of California real estate developer John Adamo who is renovating a handful of historic Mitchell Main Street buildings, announced plans to open an Italian restaurant inside the former Crafty Fox building that's being remodeled.

John Adamo purchased the building located at 219 N. Main St., in 2020. He said he's investing $1.5 million worth of renovations into the century-old building, which is being remodeled into loft apartments and a commercial space on the main floor, which is where Adamo's Kitchen is planned.

In addition to their real estate ventures, the father-daughter duo operates an Italian restaurant in Sacramento, California. The restaurant has been in business since 2014, and the planned Mitchell location would be the Adamo family's second restaurant.

In a written statement, Chiara Adamo said building plans for construction work — in relation to the restaurant plan — have already been submitted to the city. She characterized Mitchell's real estate market as an "exciting opportunity" that offered "beautiful, historic" buildings.

The restaurant will feature Italian dishes ranging from handmade gnocchi, shrimp scampi and Bolognese pasta. The Adamo family's Italian roots helped inspire their foray into restaurant industry.

The Mitchell community will have an opportunity on Friday, May 3 to taste a variety of the cuisine Adamo's Kitchen will be offering. At First Fridays on Main, Adamo's Kitchen will provide free food samples during the event.

The renovation project that's progressing at the 219 N. Main St. building is the latest downtown property John Adamo is remodeling. Across the street, he's gearing up to take on a $1.7 million renovation project at the former Woolworth building on the corner of Third Avenue and Main Street.
