May 6—The magazine Site Selection has named the $1 billion Maxeon Solar Technologies expansion into New Mexico one of the biggest deals of 2023.

Maxeon announced last year its plan to build a solar cells and panels manufacturing facility at Mesa del Sol in Albuquerque, bringing up to 1,800 jobs when the facility is up and running. The deal is one of the biggest in the state's history, and Site Selection ranked it No. 17 on its list.

Joining Maxeon on the list was that of Tesla's commitment in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, which will add roughly 5,000 jobs, as well as other notable expansions from Ford, Toyota, Hyundai and Scout Motors.

"New Mexico's deal with Netflix was honored by Site Selection in 2021 and now with Maxeon, the state has a strong track record of recruiting global companies that will have a significant economic impact and help New Mexico families attain higher-paying jobs and economic security," acting state Economic Development Secretary Mark Roper said in a statement.
