FoR Fine Art hosts annual 235 Smaller Works Show
Nov. 23—On Dec. 9, FoR Fine Art will host its sixth annual 235 Smaller Works Show in the downtown Whitefish gallery. Originally created to celebrate the relocation of their gallery from nearby Bigfork, the show has since become the highlight of the gallery's annual event calendar.
Artwork will be on display from Dec. 9 through Jan. 14 with a public opening reception on Friday, Dec. 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in conjunction with the Whitefish Christmas Stroll, a long-standing community tradition featuring holiday music, photos with Santa, caroling, a tree lighting ceremony, street artisans and food vendors.
The invitational show runs through the December holiday season with the intention of providing smaller pieces of fine art that are appropriate for gift-giving and more accessible for first-time buyers.
"We chose our size criteria of 235 square inches as a nod to our address — 235 Central Avenue," says gallery owner Derek Vandeberg. "Many of our regularly represented artists first came to the gallery as 235 show participants. It's a great way to get both our reaction and our community's reaction to the work in person."
Rather than having a selected theme, the 235 show aims to bring a wide range of styles, subject matters and mediums to the Whitefish art scene. Both two- and three-dimensional work will be part of the collection, in genres ranging from photorealism to traditional wildlife to animation art.
FoR Fine Art expects more than eighty participating artists from throughout the United States and Canada, including local favorites and internationally collected masters.
