Two of Columbia's culinary favorites were among the restaurants to earn distinction in Wine Spectator's 2023 Restaurant Awards.

CC's City Broiler and Glenn's Cafe earned awards of excellence from the publication, joining a rich company of more than 3,500 hotspots located in all 50 states and 70 countries across the globe.

Bestowed since 1981, "the Restaurant Awards represent the world’s only program focused exclusively on restaurant wine service," the magazine noted in a press release.

"In a time of technological innovation, restaurants offer the human experience diners are hungry for — listening to their customers and offering personalized experience," Wine Spectator Editor and Publisher Marvin R. Shanken said. "This annual issue celebrates the places where wine is at the top of that conversation."

The menu at Glenn's Cafe, adjoining the Tiger Hotel at 29 S. Eighth St., revolves around Creole-inspired dishes. Glenn's delivers more tannins for your buck, rated inexpensive by Wine Spectator, and its strengths come from California vineyards.

Among Columbia's premier steakhouses, CC's City Broiler, located at 1401 Forum Blvd., offers moderately-priced wines, according to the magazine's rating system. The strength of its wine list also is California-cultivated fare.

Wine Spectator awards are bestowed across three categories. The other two are the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award. CC's and Glenn's were among 2,001 venues to earn awards of excellence.

A number of other Missouri restaurants were honored, including eateries in St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and Cape Girardeau as well as Sedalia's Ivory Grille Restaurant and Oak Room Lounge.

A print edition of the Restaurant Awards issue is set to hit shelves and newsstands July 11. Learn more and search the winners at https://www.winespectator.com/restaurants.
