Finger Lakes Winter Carnival is this weekend. What you need to know

CANANDAIGUA, NY – If you need any more proof that Canandaigua is a lively winter destination spot, then make plans for the Finger Lakes Winter Carnival this weekend.

If you already knew all the region has to offer this season, then you've already made plans for the second annual event which will return January 20-22 for three days of the region’s unique winter offerings.

The weekend’s Shop, Sip and Taste events will span downtown Canandaigua, Bristol Mountain Ski Resort, the Canandaigua Lake front and The Lake House on Canandaigua. A portion of the proceeds will benefit United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes.

The three-day carnival featuring local shops, food, and beverage offerings will be dotted with ice bars, themed ice sculptures, live music, lakefront firepits, and Saturday night fireworks over Canandaigua Lake. Each day will showcase up to 20 Finger Lakes specialty businesses in the Event Barn at The Lake House on Canandaigua.

This is the first event of three celebrations of the Finger Lakes region scheduled this wintertime. Next up is downtown Canandaigua's Fire and Ice Festival in February. Also planned is a spring fling in March.

Friday, Jan. 20 – Shop the Finger Lakes

Celebrate the region’s local shops at The Lake House on Canandaigua Event Barn. Finger Lakes shops will be featuring specials and extended hours throughout the day.

Highlights include Lazy Acres Alpacas at The Lake House on Canandaigua, food truck rodeo and shopping, all from 4 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, Jan. 21 – Sip the Finger Lakes

Hosted by The Lake House on Canandaigua Event Barn, Sip the Finger Lakes will feature the region’s breweries, wineries, and distilleries that will offer promotions throughout the day.

Highlights include the Craft Corner at The Lake House on Canandaigua – Hammondsport Room. from noon to 2 p.m.; food truck rodeo, from noon to 6 p.m.; family activities at Kershaw Park, including giant Jenga, bowling and more, from 2 to 4 p.m.; and Sip the Finger Lakes at The Lake House on Canandaigua Event Barn, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Fireworks over Canandaigua Lake are planned at 8 p.m.

Sunday, Jan. 22 – Taste the Finger Lakes

The Lake House on Canandaigua Event Barn will host Taste the Finger Lakes where restaurants and bars will be offering promotions and specials throughout the day.

Highlights include the Kids Craft Corner at The Lake House on Canandaigua – Hammondsport Room, from noon to 2 p.m.; Lazy Acres Alpacas at The Lake House on Canandaigua, from noon to 4 p.m.; Taste the Finger Lakes at The Lake House on Canandaigua Event Barn, from noon to 4 p.m.; and family activities at Kershaw Park, including giant Jenga, bowling and more, from 1 to 4 p.m.
