Finland will temporarily reopen two border crossings with Russia, the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat reported on Dec. 12.

The Vaalimaa and Niirala border crossings will be reopened temporarily, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said. Otherwise, the eastern border will remain closed.

The border crossings will remain open until Jan. 14, according to Interior Minister Mari Rantanen.

The government discussed restrictions on cross-border traffic during a general session on Dec. 12.
