You either gotta fire Bob Huggins or hire Thom Brennaman. You can't have it both ways. (Editor's note: Both used homophobic slurs on the radio. Brennaman lost his job as Reds play-by-play announcer in 2020.)

Anger at repeatedly losing to Xavier fueled Huggins' slur

In less than two minutes, Bob "DUI" Huggins was able to offend Catholics and the LGBTQ community. While I find his remarks abhorrent, I understand the anger that fueled the slurs. Those Catholics at Xavier repeatedly pounded his teams at the University of Cincinnati (twice when his team was ranked No. 1), at Kansas State and, yes, at West Virginia University (once denying him an Elite Eight NCAA appearance).

So Thom Brenneman loses a broadcasting career over a homophobic slur. I am anxious to see what if anything happens to Huggins for using the same homophobic slur. Stay tuned.

Did Seelbach ever apologize to Covington Catholic kids?

Look who was quick to tweet a response to Bob Huggins regarding his on-air comment that occurred Monday, May 8, on 700 WLW-AM − former Cincinnati City Council member and "Gang of 5" member Chris Seelbach. No shock there.

I assume Seelbach is seeking to remain relevant and in the news and saw this as a good opportunity to do so. Huggins almost immediately issued an apology after the incident and said he would accept any consequences coming his way.

Recall when Seelbach and his "Gang of 5" friend Greg Landsman were quick to condemn the Covington Catholic students involved in a controversial incident in 2019 at a March for Life rally before they understood what actually happened at that rally?

Seelbach was quick to tweet, "The behavior of the students from Covington Catholic (10 minutes from my house) is despicable, appalling and anti-American. These are not freedom lovers who want to 'Make America Great Again.' These punks are little cowards who are Making America Hate Again."

Did Seelbach ever offer an apology to those students for his quick-to-judge, uninformed, hurtful and insensitive comments, or experience any consequences for his hateful words? I doubt it, but I am sure he will expect Huggins to pay a steep, if not the ultimate, penalty for his use of one word. I suppose using words like "despicable," "appalling," "anti-American," "punks," and "little cowards" before clearly understanding a situation is acceptable in the minds of some, but use that one word and you can expect to be severely reprimanded by some individuals, some groups and some in the media.

Meteorologist shouldn't throw stones at Flying Pig organizers

So, Steve Horstmeyer said that the Flying Pig administrators failing to cancel the race under thunder and lightning was the most irresponsible thing he had seen in his 45 years as a meteorologist. I would say having less than a 40% accuracy rate in 45 years as a meteorologist is far more irresponsible.
