North Huntingdon Township officials were back out at a house on Scotch Hill Number 2 Road after flames and smoke tore through the home Sunday.

The township condemned the property and boarded up the door because of the damage and the hoarding conditions inside the home.

Kim, who requested we use only her first name, lives right next door.

Her family called in the fire Sunday night.  “When I come running out, she apparently come running out of the house screaming, ‘Help me, help me,’” Kim said.

Flames and smoke were pouring from the home.

First responders say the bulk of the fire was toward the back of the house, where the fire chief believes the blaze started in a back bedroom. The positioning of the house and the fire within it presented a challenge to how crews fought the flames.

”Especially with wires too, trying to get to it with the aerials. We had ample water. It was just a difficult fire to get to based on the amount of stuff that was inside the house,” Larimer Fire Chief William Hardy said.

”She wanted to go back in after the dog, and I said, ‘You can’t do that.’ It was too dangerous. Oh, the smoke was horrible coming out of the house, so you can imagine,” Kim said.

The family made it out but lost one pet dog.

Crews were called back out Monday morning when neighbors noticed smoke seeping from the roof again.

”Me and my husband had talked about it before he left for work, and I said, ‘I’m just going to keep an eye on it just in case, I don’t want it to reignite,’ and it did, about two hours later,” Kim said.

A fire investigator with North Huntingdon Township Police is looking into an exact cause, but the fire chief believes it was accidental.
