Fire burns through top floor of Elmwood Park house

ELMWOOD PARK − Firefighters worked to put out a house fire on Philip Avenue that began Thursday morning. Flames could be seen bursting out of a top-floor window before it was put under control.

The bulk of the flames visible from the street were put out before 8 a.m., but smoke clouded the house as firefighters continued to work on the building.

Fire departments from Garfield and Saddle Brook assisted the Elmwood Park department's response to the blaze.

Borough Administrator and Police Chief Michael Foligno did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
