Fire at condo in Painesville Township results in anticipated total loss

Dec. 13—The Painesville Township Fire Department along with mutual aid from several neighboring departments responded to an early morning fire at a condominium on Blase Nemeth Road on Dec. 12 that is expected to result in a total loss.

Assistant Fire Chief Gordon Thompson said at approximately 6:11 a.m., crews were called to 1705 Blase Nemeth Road, which is part of a development called The Greens. When firefighters arrived, there was fire visible through the roof and an exterior attack was initiated before an interior attack took place to extinguish the flames.

Thompson said the residents were home at the time, but got out without injury. In addition, no firefighters were injured.

The residents in the units on either side of the condo also had to be displaced, according to Thompson.

According to a post on the Lake County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Blase Nemeth Road between Fairport Nursery Road and Bacon Road was shut down for a period of time due to the fire.

Painesville Township had all three of its stations respond to the fire as well as receiving mutual aid from Painesville City Fire, Perry Fire District, and Leroy Township and Fairport Harbor fire departments.
