Fire Crews Rescue Delivery Driver From River in County Durham

A delivery driver was rescued from his overturned truck that had ended up in a fast-flowing river in Westgate, County Durham, England, on January 19.

County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service said they were called to the scene after reports that a truck was stuck at 5 pm on Tuesday, January 19.

In video shared by the fire service, crew members can be seen approaching the truck using a raft attached to the nearby bridge. The delivery driver can be seen sitting on top of his tipped-over vehicle as the crew prepares to hand him a life jacket.

“We’re so proud of our Water Rescue Team & crews from Bishop, Durham, Stanhope, & Middleton, who at 5pm last night responded to a vehicle in the water at Westgate. On arrival our crews took immediate action, in what was challenging conditions, to ensure the driver was rescued,” County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service said.
