Oregon Department of Forestry and local fire crews are battling an at least 300 acre fire known as the 7K Fire 12 miles southwest of Veneta, the agency said.

As of Sunday morning, the fire was 40% contained, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. ODF said no structures are threatened and no evacuations are in place.

According to ODF, the fire was reported at 1 p.m. Friday on private industrial timberland and Bureau of Land Management land. The fire had grown from burning 150 acres Friday.

At least seven engines, four tenders and five helicopters are responding to the fire.

ODF is asking the public to stay away from the fire.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire. A cause is under investigation.
