Fire that damaged Bob Casey's Lake Ariel home ruled accidental

Feb. 6—A state police fire marshal said Monday a fire that damaged a Lake Twp. home owned by U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and his siblings spread from an electrical breaker panel.

The East Shore Drive home caught fire shortly before noon Sunday and was discovered by a PPL Electric Utilities subcontractor crew sent to the area for a power issue, according to a statement issued by Trooper Jeffrey Winters, of the fire marshal unit in Dunmore.

The fire was ruled accidental.

The home was empty at the time. Photographs of the aftermath posted on Facebook by the Lake Ariel Volunteer Fire Company show it heavily damaged. It's white siding is blackened by flames and had holes burned through.

Messages left with the fire company and with Casey's office were not immediately returned.
